A YAG laser is one of the most commonly used types of laser and has many different applications. The “YAG” (Yttrium Aluminum Garnet) refers to a crystal that is used for creating solid-state lasers. This type of laser was first introduced during the 1960’s by Bell Laboratories.
The YAG laser is a commonly used tool in the medical industry. Ophthalmologists use such lasers when performing cataract and/or glaucoma surgeries. Oncologists often use these lasers for removing skin cancers from their patients and they are also commonly used for cosmetic surgeries as well.
The YAG laser has other applications as well. They are often used for engraving and etching within the manufacturing industry. They are also being used by the military as laser range finders.
